Vampiress Review: Vampire in Brooklyn

The Gist: A Vampire from the Caribbean comes to Brooklyn, New York in search of a woman to continue his blood line.

Clarification:  Eddie Murphy is "Maximilian".   Apparently vampires where he's from are an endangered species and he must find a woman in order to keep his bloodline going (I guess the old fashion "biting" doesn't work).  Basically this is "Coming to America" with a horror theme.

Female Vampire Factor:  This movie gets a Vampire Beauty Rating of 3 out of 5.  This is one of those films where the vampire spends the entire movie seducing one woman and by the end of the movie you're wishing she'd hurry up and turn already.  Thankfully she does, Thanks Wes Craven!

Vampiress Cast

Angela Bassett (Rita Veder)
Rita is the NYPD detective that Maximilian spends his time trying to convince to join his "lifestyle".   It is explained that she is half vampire as her father was one (which she didn't know) and her mother was human (I guess that makes her Damphyre like BloodRayne).  Eventually her vampire side gets the best of her and she finally vamps out while having a makeout session with her partner in the department "Justice".  Most of the end of the film is her fighting her vampire urges then giving into them while Justice tries to snap her out of it.  She's not hot when she goes full on vampire but is great when it's just the fangs.

  1. Actually, even with the fright wig and Klingon forehead I thought she was totally hot as a full-on vampiress. Some great turning scenes in that movie, too.
