CW Planning a Spinoff to "The Vampire Diaries"

"The Hollywood Reporter" has brought word that soon (more than likely this season) the CW hit series "The Vampire Diaries" will branch off into a separate series that deals specifically with the original vampire family aptly titled "The Originals".

  In the Vampire Diaries universe the originals were a family of vikings who's mother put a curse on them believing to have protected them but ended up cursing them to eternal life as vampires.  The most prevalently seen member of the family "Klaus" actually being a Vampire/Werewolf hybrid.    As the story is told, unlike their offspring they can be slowed down but to kill them they have to be staked with a white oak stake from a specific tree (in other words they're pretty much unstoppable.

With this news comes hope that the lone female of the family "Rebekah" played by British actress Claire Holt does not get the vampire cure she is seeking during this season.

 That would at least give us something to look forward to as it's hard enough to comprehend that the first female vampire EVER has aspirations of being prom queen, head cheerleader and a house wife (not to mention the question of why half the family still has British accents though they've supposedly been in the new world for hundreds of years).

Female Vampire stars announced for upcoming Vampire Academy film

It's been a half year since the end of the Twilight saga which means it's time to start planning for the next line of teen girl vampire romance/drama films based on novels to help add to the stereotype that Vampires aren't monsters but instead extremely thoughtful people with several millenniums worth of emotional baggage just wanting to be loved.   This time around it will come from Richelle Meads New York Times best selling series "Vampire Academy" (Not to be confused with the Canadian television series "Vampire High").

The first film in the planned franchise which according to IMDB is set for a Valentines Day 2014 release in the US will be titled "Blood Sisters".  For those not familiar with the series it is told from the point of view of a teenage Dhampir named "Rose" who is in training to become the guardian of a Moroi named "Lissa" who happens to be her best friend and the reason she has her powers.  For those of you who have no idea what exactly that means, basically a Bloodrayne style vamp is learning to be the protector of a Twilight style vamp. 

So far we know who will be playing 3 of the main characters in the film with two of them being our main female vampires. So without any further ado here are the newest Vampire Beauties on the block.

First we have Rose.  Described as 5'7" with dark hair and dark eyes (IE your stereotypical vampire novel lead damsel) she will be played by teen actress Zoey Deutch.

  The second main vampire is Lissa.  Described as an 18 year old with platinum blonde hair and green eyes she will be played by Lucy Fry.

If you don't know who these girls are now enjoy it while it lasts because in one year from now they'll be all over the media.  Here's to hoping that at least one of them has a similar fang obsession as Ashley Green.

Vampiress Review: "Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Undead"

The Gist: A slacker who lives in his Dad's office gets a job as the director of a play about Shakespeare characters from "Hamlet" becoming vampires.  What he doesn't know is that the writer and star of the play is a vampire who is turning art into life.

Clarification: The main story of the film revolves around the main characters inability to maintain a job or a steady relationship. His life is so horrible that he sleeps all day, has regular sex with random hot women who's names he doesn't remember and doesn't pay any rent whatsoever.  It sounds like a downright horrible life to have and can't understand how anyone can live that way (EXTREME sarcasm).  The big issue stems from the female lead of the play he's directing being his ex girlfriend that he's still hung up on and his wanting to protect her.

Selling Point:  The Italian "Guido" stereotype that the main characters ex-girlfriend was dating who helps him vampire hunt is played by Ralph "original Karate Kid" Macchio.

The "wardrobe girls" Lyuba and Zadeska

 These two beauties are basically your stereotypical "brides of Dracula" types.  They hang around the background of scenes not too far from the main vampire "Theo".  They're new at the whole being a vampire thing as Theo is training them in how to turn people very early in the movie and the main vampire has no real romantic interest in them as he's per-occupied with the reincarnation of his soul mate.  As far as fang scenes go, Zadeska has plenty of scenes shown fanging out.

 Lyuba on the other hand is barely noticeable even during her bite scenes and is the first vamp to be offed midway through the film. It's ok though because she is quite easily replaced.

Devon Aoki (Anna Blake)

The girl everyone in the film is hung up on. Anna is an aspiring actress who even though has broken up with her ex boyfriend Julian (the main character) after he cheated on her, seems to have absolutely no problem calling on him for absolutely EVERYTHING.  Their relationship was apparently not very good on both ends (he's a womanizer and she's a user) so it seems they were made for each other.  Obviously if she makes the list it means that Julian doesn't do a very good job of protecting her and preventing Theo the vampire from turning her.  Unlike in most films with this type of plot she gets turned prior to the end of the film so it's not a "surprise last scene" or anything like that.  Though she's a vampire you only get to see her fangs very briefly right after you find out in a scene where her and Zadeska attack two cops attempting to arrest Julian. Otherwise she gets the pale skin and contacts treatment.

So while the girls are very much a part of the plot I can't say as far as female vamps go that this is a must see film.  Otherwise it's a halfway entertaining comedy as far as stand alone entertainment value.  In the end I give it a Vampire Beauty rating of 3 out of 5.
