Vampiress Review: "Kiss of the Vampire"

The Gist: A couple on their honeymoon are the targets of a vampire cult.

Clarification: Your run of the mill Hammer horror film meaning it is very high quality even if the story is pretty cookie cutter for a Hammer Film.  Husband and wife go on vacation, end up in spooky place, head of spooky place wants woman and wants to get rid of guy.  Pretty much Dracula without Dracula.  This is no coincidence because this film was originally scripted to be a Dracula film but no Christopher Lee meant no Dracula.

Selling Point/Female Vampire Factor: There is only one real vampire in the film who tends to do the dirty work for the entire cult and that would be Tania played by Isobel Black.

Any time something vampiric happens during the film she is the one to do it.   We're first introduced to her when she goes to the grave of her friend waiting for her to wake up.  Instead she finds a shovel sticking through her friends coffin (which we see earlier in the film that her father did during her funeral suspecting her for being a vampire).  Once dear old dad comes back for revenge she goes from innocent girl to deadly vamp as soon as she realizes she's in danger.

As it seems there's a possibility that she's the only real vampire in the group because of this but that's never addressed.  It's just odd that she literally has to do anything that relates to biting someone and no one else in the film fangs out at all.

I mean there's even another female in the cult played by Jacquie Wallis but she's seemingly just a background character despite being the head cultists daughter.

Even with this I give the film a Vampire Beauty Rating of 5 out of 5.  Out of all the Hammer Horror women to play a vampire Isobel is easily top 5.  She barely says a word in the film but her screen time is never wasted.

Sexy Female Vampires of "The Originals"

The Originals is a television series which has aired on the CW since 2013.  It revolves around the original vampire family introduced in the second season of the Vampire Diaries who were the main antagonist of the series up until the shows fourth season.

In the series Niklaus Mikaelson heads to New Orleans after somehow getting a werewolf pregnant.   A rival vampire group lead by his former protige Marcel has taken over the city and it's up to Niklause as well as his siblings Elijah and Rebecca to take it back and protect his child at the same time.

Unlike the Vampire Diaries this show is less about the vampires and more about witchcraft. Since none of the main characters are by definition "humans" fear of being turned or feeding really isn't a big part of the show so fanging out is few and far between (even more so than the Vampire Diaries where it only happens a few times a season).  

Rebekah Mikaelson (Claire Holt)

 As mentioned in the entry for The Vampire Diaries Rebecca might be one of the first vampires but she acts very much like a spoiled teenage girl.  Her and Elijah are the "voice of reason" of the group as they do have human like emotions as opposed to Niklaus who is a monster.  It also slightly complicates things that she is a former love interest of Marcel's.  A relationship Niklaus didn't approve of not to mention she also becomes a bit of a feminist toward the middle of the shows first season.

 The above is what she used to look like.  That was until Season 2 when her spirit inhabited the body of a witch named Eva Sinclair (Maise Richardson-Sellers).  This coinciding with Clare Holts decision to leave the show after it's initial season.

According to the Originals producer Michael Narducci there is a plan in place for Rebekah to get her original body back (Claire only appears in flashbacks as of this writing).  That means a possible full time return of vampire Rebekah is imminent.


Hayley Marshall-Kenner (Phoebe Tonkin)

Haley is the "babby momma" in the center of most of the issues on this series.  Originally introduced on the Vampire Diaries she is the werewolf who gets knocked up by Niklaus.  She eventually gives birth to a hybrid baby girl and is murdered just after.  It just happens that she has her hybrid daughters blood in her system as she dies which results in her also becoming half vampire as well.

Gia  (Nishi Munshi)

Gia was turned by Marcel in the shows second season and then handed off to Elijah to train.  In true Vampire Diaries fashion if a hot young woman gets turned who isn't a main character she rarely makes it out of the season alive.  In this case she is compelled to burn at the light of the sun by Niklause after Elijah finally takes a liking to her. 

Lenore   (Sonja Sohn)

A vampire hating which who gets possessed and eventually turned into a vampire herself and killed by her own blood in the shows second season.












Aurora De Martel (Rebecca Breeds)

Introduced in Season 3 as being turned by Rebekah, not much is known of this vampire as of this writing.  Here's the one thing we do know.  Eventually in season 3 we will see a flashback explaining and showing her getting bitten by Rebekah (at least I hope). 

Aya (Tracy Ifeatcher)

Part of a ancient vampire society called "The Strix" introduced in the shows 3rd season she was turned by Elijah and assumed to have had romantic connection to him in their distant past.

The X-Files is a television show which originally aired from 1993 to 2002 on the Fox Network in the US and spawned a spinoff, a feature film and will be revived for a mini series in 2016.  The show revolved around two FBI agents who worked for a special task force that specialized in unexplained phenomenon mostly dealing with aliens.

This would not be the only episode that dealt with vampires as the Season 5 episode "Bad Blood (Episode 12) also dealt with them but no female characters to speak of in that particular episode.

The name of this episode comes from their being three main vampires.  Their names being "The Father", "The Son" and "The UnHoly Spirit".  As the episode goes their are people being murdered in a ritualistic fashion and each time the killers write biblical passages in the victims blood near the victim.  It ends up that the culprits are three vampires one woman aka the UnHoly Spirit (Justina Vail) whose job is the lour the victims

and then two men who partake after ambushing the victim (the Son and The father).  This would be Fox Mulder (the main FBI agent of the series) first encounter with vampires so he of course doesn't believe this could be the case but after this episode he has no problem once the Season 5 episode happens.

The vampires here do not have fangs but the Unholy Ghost does bite without cutting.  It is kind of questionable whether they are actually the undead kind as the only thing supernatural that really happens in this episode is that "The Son" does burn when exposed to sunlight but he shows up later in the episode just fine.  By the end of the episode they all end up burned to death though the unholy ghost is killed prior to that via getting a post lodged into the back of her head after jumping on top of a car.

With that being said this isn't much of a vampire episode.  Basically just serial killers with imodulated voices.
