Vampiress Review: Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter

The Gist: A historic biopic with a supernatural twist

Clarification: Based on the best selling novel by Seth Grahame-Smith this film cleverly takes the real life story of the United States 16th president and turns it into an action horror.  The most clever part is the story never actually strays too far from historical fact but instead adds vampires to real life events such as the US Civil War and the slaves journey to freedom using the underground railroad (which in this stories version was also used to smuggle vampire killing weapons to union soldiers.

Selling Point: It's a history movie for those with short attention spans.  Just when you would phase out due to an abundance of historical facts, something gets blown up or Lincoln takes an ax to a vampires head and you're right in it again.

Female Vampire Factor:  Being the historical time period this film takes place in, obviously there will be very little "sex" involved let alone females who at that time weren't too prevalent when it came to politics and war (though Mary Tod Lincoln and Harriet Tubman are pretty bad ass in the movie). While there is a ballroom scene in which vampires trap humans via inviting them to the high class event just for the vamps to eat the humans who attend that has a couple female vamps, there is only one who gets any real screen time of any type.
Erin Wasson (Vedoma)
Vedoma is the sister of the main vampire antagonist in the film.  Her character has no other purpose seemingly other than to have a hot female vampire somewhere in the film and her role is very similar to the Brides of Dracula in the film "Van Helsing" in that most of her screen time is in fighting scenes making it seem as if she is the enforcer of the vampire hierarchy.
In the end it really isn't enough to give this film a Vampire Beauty rating of more than 2 out of 5.  Though I highly recommend this film otherwise. If you're only looking for a sexy seductive vampiress or two then you will want to steer clear of this one.

  1. Erin Wasson is beautiful but are her fangs CGI? That's disappointing if they are.
