Vampiress Review: Darkfall Resurrection

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2581502/

The Gist:  A space expedition leads to an ancient vampire being awakened and a young couple must do what they can to stop him and save her father.

Clarification:  The story is told in flashback format from the point of view of an old man talking to a group of vampire hunting trainee's about what started the issues they're training for in the first place.   The film itself is 100% green screen CGI but don't expect Star Wars/Avatar type level.  This is more along the lines of Devry Institute commercial/1990's early CD video game technology stuff.  As a matter of fact the movie itself does come off a lot like one of those old full motion video "you select the outcome" games that you could buy once upon a time for the 3DO or Sega CD (and probably would be better used that way if those type of games were still relevant).

The main takeaway from the film is the bad audio dubbing.  The acting isn't great by any means (you can barely call it that) but it just sticks out that much more when the characters expressions don't match their tone of voice whatsoever. Otherwise the story itself (once you get past the old man talking parts) is pretty solid.

Selling Point:  If you've got any Sci Fi nerd in you it might be worth taking a look at.

Female Vampire Factor: They exist but not important whatsoever as this is more of a Sci Fi film with vampires than a Vampire film with sci fi elements.  Only the main vamp is important to the movie with everyone he turns just being quick shot background fodder.
 (SPOILER ALERT)
Ultimately you do find out that the main character of the story Alexandra (Jessica Craike) did get turned and you do see her sporting fangs but it doesn't amount to more than a conversation that reveals the true identity of the old man telling the story as her love interest before she was turned.
My recommendation is to only check this out if you're looking for a sci-fi space adventure flick.  As far as Vampires go it gets a Vampire Beauty Rating of 2 out of 5

Vampiress Review:"Bloodsuckers"

The Gist: Also known as "Vampire Wars: Battle for the Universe" its basically if Star Trek was about intergalactic vampire hunters and Spock was a sexy female vampire.

Clarification:  In the future space travel has found that humans are not alone.  Unfortunately the rest of the beings in the galaxy apparently feed off the blood of humans so humanity has put together a force who hunts down vampires to protect human colonies.  The group this particular movie follows unfortunately doesn't get along very well which isn't good as they are the only hope when other ports of vampire hunters are being destroyed by vampires who seem to be getting help from the inside.

Selling Point: Quintana.....see below

Female Vampire Factor

Natassia Malthe (Quintana)
If you've read my past blogs (instead of just looking at the pictures and video's even though that's probably what I would do too) you remember my frustration at how un vampiric she was when she played "BloodRayne" in the straight to DVD versions of that franchise.   I can happily say I do not have ANY of those issues with her in this movie.  As a matter of fact, she is the lone reason this movie is not only watchable but legitimately enjoyable.  As said in the clarification the crew initially doesn't get along and argue a lot.  When she's angry, her fangs come out, when she's around humans (which is all the time) she's kind of bloodthirsty, when she's not bloodthirsty she's horny.  That alone means when she's on camera, it's a must see part of the film for fans of female vampires and she's pretty much always on camera.  On top of that her wardrobe is pretty much skin tight cat suits or tight pants/corset combinations (ala Bloodrayne).

Because of the fact that you don't have to wait for something to happen and that she is seductive and vampiric despite being a "good guy" in the film, this film gets a Vampire Beauty Rating of 4 out of 5.
The only thing that would have made it better is if she'd have an evil female counterpart but that doesn't take away from the movies enjoyment factor at all.

Vampiress Review: "Slayer"

The Gist: A group of soldiers battle a brood of vampires somewhere in South America.

Clarification: This is one of the legendary Sci Fi original movies.  Sci Fi original movies are independent movies produced to air exclusively on the Sci Fi (now SyFy) cable channel.  What makes these movies legendary is how absolutely cheap and horrible they are which makes this all the more disappointing being that this film was on the more high end of the Sci Fi movie quality spectrum (the low end films are much more entertaining as they normally consist of girls in bikini's being haunted by some type of ridiculous creature). It (sort of) follows the story of a group of marines led by a guy named Hawk who encounter vampires while out walking around the rainforest.  They are then sent back to find Hawks ex wife Laurie who had been kidnapped by them vampire.   The movie stars vamp vets Casper Van Dien (Modern Vampires) and Kevin Grevioux (Underswold) along with former Wonder Woman star Lynda Carter and pretty much is 88 minutes of badly choreographed fight scenes.

Female Vamp Factor: This film gets a Vampire Beauty Rating of 2 out of 5.  There's only one main one in the film but she gets a ton of screen time despite looking very disheveled for most of the film.  The main reason she's worthy of a 2 on her own is she's a former Miss Puerto Rico and a runner up in the Miss Universe Pageant.

Vampiress Cast

Joyce Giraud (Estrella)
Estrella is the daughter of the head vampire and seemingly the only female in the brood so if this were the smurfs she would be like their "Smurfette".  She's easily the most aggressive in the group and as stated above gets some of the most actual screen time out of all the vamps in the film.  She develops a bit of a thing for Hawk in the midst of the whole "killing the soldiers who are in their territory" story the film was supposed to be following which goes no where and she even gets a scene where she seduces a soldier in his dreams (which also goes no where and comes off pretty pointless but at least she looks hot during it.)  Other memorable scenes include her attacking "Laurie" in her bedroom which pretty much was her jumping on top of hot blonde Jennifer O'Dell while posing and hissing a lot.
